How this works — and why it's private

BPIE (Bluebird Perceptual Image Encoder) treats compression as a search problem. Instead of guessing a quality number, it binary-searches the codec's quality knob and measures perceptual similarity (SSIM) between the original and each candidate.

The image is decoded to pixels in your browser (no upload).
Luminance is compared over 8×8 windows to compute a fast, deterministic SSIM.
The solver hunts the highest quality that hits your KB target and stays above your SSIM floor.
The winning encode is returned as a downloadable Blob — everything happens on your device.
